Good news

I started this blog to combine two of my favorite activities: writing reviews and reading SF/Fantasy and horror. This week I have been making contacts in order to receive some upcoming titles to review. The good news is that I have some reviews coming up that I am excited about and I hope my (future) readers will be as well.

First off, I will be posting a review of Michael Andre-Driussi's 2nd edition of Lexicon Urthus, the definitive dictionary/encyclopedia of Gene Wolfe's The Book of the New Sun series and related stories. I am excited about this one as I am a huge fan of Wolfe and the 1st edition of LE goes for hundreds of dollars (when you can find one at all). While you're waiting for the review, why not check out Urth, a mailing list devoted to Wolfe's works.

Next up will be a review of Ed Gorman's upcoming novel, Cage of Night from PS Publishing. This one looks promising with its mix of the fantastic and gritty crime fiction realism. Look for these reviews within a week.

I also have books coming from Tachyon, Baen, and several other places, so this place will be rocking soon enough. Until next time...

Just an idea...

Just to give some idea of the books I will review to get started, you know, the older stuff, here is a small list. Some of these may not make it, but like I said, this is just a general idea.

Lord Valentine's Castle by Robert Silverberg

The Tschai series by Jack Vance (along with several others)

Black Brillion by Matthew Hughes

The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe (as well as many others)

Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay

...and many others that may get reviewed soon. Stay tuned.

First post!

I know there are many many SF/Fantasy book review blogs out there, and I am sure the interweb really dosen't need another one. But I don't care. I read tons and tons of SF/Fantasy, I am very enthusiastic about the field, I write the stuff myself, etc. I have written reviews for other sites before and I really enjoyed doing it. So. Here I am. I promise not to be boring and hopefully offer something here that the other review sites lack.

Over the next few days, I am going to begin posting retro-reviews of many of the genre's best-known works. I figure that will be a good warm-up for the reviewing of some New Stuff. My first new review will be Michael Andre-Driussi's Lexicon Urthus (2nd esition) which should be here in a few days. So please check back often and thank you for the visit!
